We finally finished watching the season finale of American Idol. I was terribly disturbed by the amount of Sanjaya that I saw tonight, but I was even more disturbed that he was singing with Joe Perry, from Aerosmith, which is a band I love.
In the beginning of the season, the show would get cut off every week by Tivo, so we'd miss the last minute or so. Finally, I created a two minute buffer, because God forbid you miss that last minute of the poor voted off person singing their Final Ballad. I should have taken notice last night when my boyfriend's performance was cut off. But I didn't take notice and yes, I am an idiot, because after watching the finale for two hours and two minutes, Tivo ended the show and we did not get to see won. Two minutes after the show was supposed to end and it still hadn't ended.
Can I just talk about how irritating that is? I mean, it wasn't that big of a deal because I can go to www.anywebsiteanywhere.com and find the winner, but STILL, are they just milking the whole two hours and then some for advertisements?? C'mon, end it on time, already!
By the way, this is my 400th post. WOOT. HOOT. HOLLA.
Congrats on 400! We did the exact same thing. I ran for the computer and did a technorati search for American Idol winner.

OMG-the same thing happened to me and my husband last night. We were ticked off after watching every minute of every episode since January! Gimme a break...2 hours wasn't enough time to get it in???

Okay, that's pretty bad that this happened to probably like half the viewers (including me!). I was pissed, too.

LOLOL OK, I feel much better... we were SO ILL when it cut off (and we even have a FOUR MINUTE buffer and it STILL didn't catch it). We suffered through Bette Midler (who I love but what in the heck is she doing there signing an 8o's song?) and Rueben? Where has he been? Taylor? Good to see ya buddy...haven't seen you one time since last year's final. Sanjaya? I missed the results but had to suffer through Sanjaya? C'mon, Fox.

sorry-- with all my ranting I didn't congratulate you on your 400th. Yea!!!!!

Two hours and ten minutes...but hey- at least we got to hear Big Bird's poem for ten minutes. Who wouldn't want to see her over hearing more Melinda??
Fortunately, we were watching it close to live time and we noticed it was going to cut off and hurried to tape the news following the show. About all you missed was the way Ryan really shocked us all by having a really long, dramatic pause before finishing his sentence.

Ok.....so the exact thing happened to me! I got home after work around 10:30...the whole house was asleep...got a diet coke...watched last nights show....then the finale....fast forwarded through all the boring stuff and then....and then.....OMG...it stopped taping after two hours!! At midnight last night I was firing up my computer to see who the heck won!! I was so mad! Oh well....next year I will know better!!

I'm with you! I worked until 10, rushed home to watch Idol. I had set the VCR(I know! I just got a CD player 2 years ago, give me a break!)for 2 hours. The next thing I know some other show is playing! I got on line and found out who won but it's just not the same as seeing it!

And yet, after reading all of your posts and comments, I STILL DON'T KNOW WHO WON!!!
Congrats on 400, dude. That rocks.

Funny! I JUST wrote the following in Big Mama's comments section:
" I feel your pain!!!
THE SAME thing (well not quite) happened to me! Since I couldn't bear to watch them drag out every known star to sing random songs to fill up the two-hour special, I decided that I would flip back and forth from the LOST season finale to AI. And.I.Missed.The.Results. I was so hot. Why didn't they do it at the very end like a rationale person would expect?
And yes, I found out that she won on the radio this morning. BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME!"
Congrats on the 400!

I totally know what you mean about all the fillers and junk just to fill airspace. I did not watch american idol ( yes I am the one nerd who does not watch it lol) but I watch Dancing With the Stars and I noticed this year their results show was incredibly annoying with all sorts of extra crap I could care less about lol...like the whole jimmy kimmel skit thing what a waste of space. anyway isn't it neat how the stations decide for us what we want to see? lol oh and I did not know you could create a 2 minute buffer on tivo! I will have to check out mine does the same thing.
later...oh and love your blog!

Okay, I have an EIGHT minute buffer on my TIVO and it cut off 10 seconds AFTER the winner was announced. I'm not kidding. I was pissed because as I fastforwarded through the last set of unusually long commercials I just knew after watching ALL freaking season I was going to miss the moment. I didn't miss it fortunately, but I did miss all the hugs and seeing cute, cute Blake one last time. . . ho hum.
I'm glad Jordin won. I LOVE Blake, but I do think he'll do really good for himself without AIs "big brother" help. And at least he won't have to record that lovely ballad, This Is My Now,he was forced to sing and bomb on. Totally not suited for him. . .

I'm usually just a lurker, but I thought you all should know that you can catch the last six minutes of the finale on YouTube. My mom was devestated at missing the last moments, and I saved the day. Thank goodness for google video. It's a little fuzzy, but to see it, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6hIS3rCKR8
